Wil received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science from University of North Carolina in 1987. He spent the first 14 years of his professional life working at Apple, first at their Cupertino CA headquarters and subsequently in Austin TX, where he worked at the Somerset joint Design Center on PowerPC CPU designs. After Apple, Wil joined LifeSize Communications, where he was the primary designer of the LifeSize Phone; the world’s most advanced conference telephony system. LifeSize was acquired for $405M by Logitech in in 2009. After LifeSize, Wil founded Rubicon Labs, Inc where he built a novel cyber-security platform aimed at the IoT market.
In 2017, Wil spun his current company, Anametric, Inc. out of Rubicon Labs. Anametric is a fabless semiconductor company building Quantum Photonics chips with an initial market in the telecommunications and security space. Over the last 7 years, Anametric has successfully executed on several multi-$M contracts with the US Air Force for various projects based around Anametric’s patented Quantum Photonics-based chip designs. Wil is the holder of 47 issued US patents and has many more still pending.
