Casey Morris

I have been working with technology since graduating from The College of William and Mary in 2007. I joined Microsoft in 2019 to support the migration of their Federal customers to Azure and Office 365. I’m passionate about closing the digital divide using data and data analysis. I’ve been a developer since the age of 11 when I first discovered html, technology is something that comes naturally to me and my interest has led me to work in systems engineering, business applications and data analytics. In my spare time, my wife and I enjoy traveling, especially to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I love music and have been a DJ since college. My family emigrated from Liberia to the United States seeking peace, prosperity and stability.

Digital Equity and Inclusion: My research looked for factors, economic and demographic, that showed an impact on high density neighborhoods where broadband deficits are above 50%. When I discussed the metrics that would go into a score/index, the main ones I found were age, income, race, school enrollment, home occupancy and employment. Based on the data we have available via the American Community Survey; this limited amount of data can pinpoint neighborhoods that are highly susceptible to digital exclusion and begin to form a descriptive profile of that community. With tested and reliable measures, community organizations will have a better way of localizing and targeting their effort for digital access. This is a starting point, helping us close the gap between what is reported in aggregate, and the type of qualitative data that comes from actively engaged community partners. This is where the outcomes of digital inclusion activism are measured, in the success stories of the families and individuals that were left out for so long.

Chris Gay

Chris Gay – co-founder Evry Health, a B2B start-up health insurance company founded in 2017 with backing from Y Combinator and other Silicon Valley VCs.

Chris and his co-founders wanted to overhaul the end-to-end healthcare experience, making consumer-focused healthcare more transparent and high-quality again – they saw (and continue to see) a problem in the healthcare insurance industries with out-of-control premiums and worsening outcomes which is why they founded Evry. Chris and his co-founders are genuinely mission-driven individuals who decided they had the skill sets needed to do something about the problem. What makes Evry different is they have eliminated deductibles and co-pays for in-network benefits, can save companies up to 20% on premiums, and it provides expanded benefits like telehealth and digital mental health services at no additional cost. Evry differentiates itself from traditional preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and health maintenance organization (HMOs) by using software automation to lower the cost of healthcare. The company’s expansive benefit plans encourage preventative health and access to care. Evry also incentivizes its members to be healthy with tailored wellness plans that come at no cost to the employer or their employees. These specialized, optional wellness solutions provide a wide range of resources, tools and rewards that are different from other health insurance plans, including benefits such as prenatal support, nutritional counseling and mental health, depression and anxiety counseling.

Chris was inspired to start Evry because he lost friends and family to the terrible dysfunction in the healthcare system. Chris is a true problem solver. He has a knack for startups and bringing on top talent while raising capital to support his innovative business ideas. For instance, Chris founded the insurer that invented per-mile auto insurance (“Drive Less, Pay Less”), MileMeter, which reduced premiums up to 50%. He has led the turnaround and sale of an IP consulting company for a VC firm. Chris has also tackled the car seat manufacturing business. He is the co-founder of Kioma which makes the world’s safest, lightest and most functional car seat. Like with Evry, Chris saw an issue in the marketplace,  asking himself why car seats need to be so complicated. As a result, he set out to create a model himself to bring to market and Kioma was born. Chris also created the “Round-Up for Start-Ups” event in Dallas way back before the start-up scene was big in Dallas so as you can see, he has long, storied history in the Dallas start-up space.
