Nia-Tayler Clark, a lover of literacy, is a firm believer in the transformative power of education, representation, and access.
While spending five years as a high school English teacher, she was known for her ability to make content inclusive, engaging, and memorable for students.
Clark’s life would change forever after one student boldly stated in the middle of class, “I don’t read Miss.; I’m Black.” These few words inspired her to start BLACKLIT: a monthly subscription box and online bookstore that highlights Black authors and entrepreneurs in efforts to close the literacy gap and increase representation.
As BLACKLIT experienced rapid growth, Clark was faced with the hard decision of leaving her position in the classroom to embark on the journey of full-time entrepreneurship. With her faith at the forefront and her 4-year-old son by her side every step of the way, Clark is relentless in her plans to open a physical location for the BLACKLIT Bookstore. Currently, it is set to open on July 2, 2022, in Addison, TX.
